Fundraising Tips

Due to its unusual nature, the Cross Bay Challenge is a high cost event to stage and this is what your entry fees cover. As the aim of this event is to raise funds for CancerCare, participants are kindly requested to try to raise sponsorship if at all possible.

Here are our some handy hints to get you going:

  1. Set up a Justgiving page
It’s easy to use - go to www.justgiving.com to set up your own personalised fundraising page and then email the link to everyone you know.
  2. Play the 'Guess my finishing time' game
Get people to pay £2 to enter and give a prize to the one who guesses correctly. It's easy peasy, just download this form to get you started and collect as you go.
  3. Ask your company for a donation
Many companies now operate a match-giving scheme where they match what you raise £ for £
  4. Hold a quiz night
Many pubs will hire out rooms for free on weekdays in return for you bringing people through their doors. Invite friends, family, colleagues, or anyone else and charge an entry fee.
  5. Spring Clean and Clean Up
Recycle all those unwanted Christmas presents by spring cleaning your house and selling all your items at a local car boot sale! Get your friends to join in to and you'll have double the profits!
  6. Have a look at our A2Z of fundraising ideas at the bottom of this page to get you started.

Or get in touch with us and we'll tailor an idea just for you!

Just Giving - Fundraising Made Easy

Sponsor Forms and Money

To maximise your sponsorship make sure you get your sponsors to include their name, home address, postcode and if they are UK taxpayers that they have ticked the Gift Aid box.

When you have collected the money you can do one of two things:

1) You can send a cheque to our Admin Centre at Slynedales (see address below)

2) Take it to either the Lakes Centre, Kendal or Slynedales, Lancaster.

Please return all sponsor money by 1st September 2010.

gift aid it
By getting your sponsors to give their home address and tick the “Gift aid it” box when they sponsor you they could increase your sponsor money without it costing them a penny extra.

If your sponsor is a UK taxpayer and they clearly write their full name, home address and postcode, we can claim tax back from the government. So, for every pound donated, we receive £1.28.
